Cook and McCall have past worked together, the network said, describing the dynamic between the characters as ‘oil and water.’
Pinkett Smith’s guest appearance comes two months after actor Chris Noth, 67, was fired from the series in December after he was accused of sexual assault by multiple women.
‘Chris Noth will no longer film additional episodes of The Equalizer, effective immediately,’ CBS said in a statement December 20.
Noth, who played former CIA director William Bishop on the show, issued a statement denying the accusations, saying they were ‘categorically false.’

Latifah addressed the issue on People (the TV Show!) last month, calling it ‘a dicey, delicate situation that requires a great deal of respect.
‘It’s still surreal,’ she said. ‘That’s a personal thing that he’s going to have to deal with.’
She said that she and producers on The Equalizer, which began airing last year, were ‘figuring out what we want to do creatively on the show and how we’re going to deal with that character.
‘Chris’s character’s obviously a big part of the show and it was amazing chemistry, amazing chemistry. And my feeling is justice has to prevail regardless. I just want the right things to be done, you know?’
The Equalizer featuring Smith is set to air February 27 at 8/7c on CBS, and streaming on Paramount+.
