Jonassen started playing in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) for the Queensland Fire in the 2008–09 season. Three weeks after her 16th birthday, she made her WNCL debut against the New South Wales Breakers. In a loss by eight wickets, she scored 12 not out off 16 balls and took 0/21 from three overs. She went on to play every game of the season and finished with 12 wickets at an average of 19.83.
